Comhdháil 2010 Conference

Feabhra 19-20 February

This year's Annual Conference was opened at 19:30 on Friday 19 February 2010 in the GMB (Foirgneamh Cuimhneachán na gCéimithe) on the campus of Trinity Colllege Dublin, with papers being presented the following day in the Arts Block (Foirgneamh na nEalaíon). This annual conference is the primary opportunity in Ireland for students of history to meet and the 2010 conference marks the 60th anniversary of the Association. In honour of the very first such conference in 1950 this year's was jointly hosted by the two great rivals TCD and UCD. Fittingly UCD Adjunct Professor James McGuire MRIA gave an entertaining and informative after-dinner dinner speech on the association and his involvement with it over many years; the speech can be viewed here. Students from Ireland and those studying Irish history abroad presented papers at this event. The full timetable (pdf) is available to download; it lists all the speakers and paper titles, as well as venue details.

Bhain chuile duine sult as an gcomhdháil agus ba chóir dúinn buíochas a ghabháil le Giulia, Declan agus an fhoireann uilig.

There are four cash prizes to be awarded to those presenting at the conference and the best presentations will be published as papers in the new electronic journal. For more information on the prizes and the opportunity to be published in the peer reviewed CCS - IHSA journal simply click on to the Iris - Journal menu button above. Those presenting a paper at the conference paid a 20 euro fee while all others attending paid a very reasonable fee of 10 euro. Registration will take place on both Friday evening and Saturday morning. The enjoyable Béile na Comhdhála - Conference Dinner took place in the Alexander Hotel on Fenian Street at 19:30 on the Saturday. This map (pdf) shows the location of the hotel, the Trinity campus and a selection of key tourist sights within easy walking distance of the campus. An expansive list of recommended value accommodation located in the city centre can be found here in PDF format.
