Limerick City is a much under-rated city with a long and proud history, and a bustling present as a centre of education and employment.

The city of Luimneach started life as a permanent settlement of the Vikings before falling under local Irish Gaelic control during the golden years of the great Brian Ború. During the years of the conquest and colonisation of the country the walled city became a seat of Norman and English power and administration, with many major episodes of siege, rebellion and war. The twentieth century also witnessed fascinating events centred around revolution and politics; even including a soviet!  

Stair - Historic Sites

The oustanding sites of the city are the mediaeval cathedral, Anglo-Norman castle, and streetscapes of fine Georgian buildings.

Bia - Food

Chocolat is propably the best restaurant in the city centre.

Fíon - Wine

A new addition to the city's venues is The Copper Room wine bar; something that was lacking in the city for too long. With a fine selection of wines and cheeses, and a lovely open fire, this centrally located cellar bar is well worth dropping into over your weekend cois Sionnaine.

Craic - Pubs and other providers of fine beer and spirits

Mickey Martins - a great little pub with a relaxed, but trendy, vive.

Tom Collins - classic victorian city pub.

Gurragowar - great view, food and drink; often has live music.

Níos mó craice - Late night emporiums of further entertainment

As anyone who has studied in Luimneach knows there is one late night venue that defies easy classification, the legendary Costello's Tavern; a very good night was had there following the 2014 conference!

For those looking for a heaving multi-room late night pub they should head to Nancy Blake's.

There are of course several nightclubs/discos and many of these can be found in the Denmark Street area.
